Classic picture with what I consider the worlds’ greatest athlete and here’s why: This picture was taken in Ceour de lane, Idaho with Scott Rigsby. He’s the only double amputee below the knee to finish an ironman. Think about that! he has no legs below his knee and swam 2.1 miles, biked 112 miles and then ran 26 miles! Are you kidding, I would struggle to swim 200 yards, bike 112 feet and run 2 miles. let alone accomplish what Scott has at age 39. it gets even better than that.
I was in Ceour De Lane with Scott to follow and document his accmplishments in the ironman in Idaho in which he came up just a bit shy, falling off his bike and hurting his back causing him to finish 13 miles shy of the required 26 mile run. He would later would finish the Ironman in Kona, Hawaii. you need to go to his website and read about him, he’s a remarkable person with remarkable heart, you donlt find people like him very often and I am better off having done a story on him for FOX Sports Net becasue it gave me the chance to appreciate the little things in life that we sometimes all take for granted. www.scottrigsby.com.
get this, he was working in a landscaping business with his buddies in high school in Moultrie, Ga. back in the 8o’s when he wss knocked off the back of the trailer which severed his ankle and mangled his leg which was removed, then 12 years and 25 surgeries later he went to the team Doctor for the Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers and asked him to please remove his other leg so he could run again. After all he was an aspiring football player who was solid on the field in high school and he wanted his life back…The Dr. obliged after may tests and that’s when Rigsby was fitted with his prosthetics and began to live again. Scott, we can all live a more fullfilling life after reading and seeing your story. YOU ARE ONE OF A KIND!
